Welcome to our user guide to taking your whole family to a music festival. Yes it's actually possible!
At New Junior we are total music lovers and grew up listening to a range of different genres. From young ages we were bringing CDs home so excited to pour over all the artwork and lyrics and stayed up late tuning into our favourite radio stations. That passion progressed into many years spent camping out in the rain at late night music festivals and getting our doof stick decorated perfectly to stand out in the crowd.
That’s how we actually started New Junior. Our sister attended the likes of Womad and other outdoor music festivals with our nieces at a young age and couldn't find suitable hearing protection for them.
Fast forward a few years and New Junior was born. Providing hearing protection to little ones so that the whole family could get amongst a good music festival. With so many music gigs and bookings open for summer festivals right now in New Zealand we decided to make a little survivors guide of how to take the whole family to a music festival.
KEEPING IT LOCAL
If you’re getting nervous about the whole taking a baby to a festival thing, we recommend keeping it nice and local. That way you know you’ve got an escape plan up your sleeve. Or even better, bring granny and grandpa along so they can hang out with bubs during the day if you need to go have a quick boogie on the dance floor.
SUSS OUT THE FACILITIES FOR BABIES
Music festivals provide a whole heap of facilities for little ones ranging from a tiny tent structure for feeding and changing newborns - to very luxe environments with rocking chairs, onsite microwaves, baby baths and even bookings for massage sessions for little ones! Um..can we sign up!?
SO IS GETTING TO SLEEP EVEN POSSIBLE?
We know what you’re thinking, yeah this all sounds great but how does one sleep at night?
CREATE A DARK ROOM
Many tents these days have darkened sleeping rooms that stop the unwelcome sun waking up the whole family too early.. You can even get travel cots complete with sunshades which are a total life saver!
KEEP IT NICE AND TOASTY
Fight off the cold that comes from the ground underneath you. Get a little Therm-A-Rest type mat to place underneath your travel cot and keep the chill away.
FORGET YOUR DAILY ROUTINE
Don’t stress if you break your fixed routine for a few days. Your little one might be staying up a little later, but with a little pair of New Junior Hearing Protection Earmuffs they can just chill in a sling or buggy until you get to transfer them to bed after the music stops.
PROTECT THOSE LITTLE EARS
We've saved the best til last. We can’t get over how many parents write to us excited about how well our New Junior earmuffs worked to block out harsh sounds at festivals for their newborns and small babies. You can take them in the hardy carry case, change up the headband to suit your little ones outfit, and rest in peace knowing your baby’s hearing won’t be damaged while you let your hair down.
These are just a few tips for living your festival summer of love with your little ones included. We’ll see you all on the dance floor….
